In order to support our education and instruction philosophy, CSYC recognized many years ago that a new, state of the art instructional and training facility would be needed. With the old boathouse long gone and building of a new “sailor friendly” harbor having been completed, new training facilities was the next logical step for the club. Recently, that need became reality. In 2012 the new, two level, 3000+ sq foot Henry B. Joy Sailing Center was built. It is fully functional with three much needed areas: Training & Education, Boat Repair & /Maintenance, Equipment Storage. For the most part, the Training & Education area is what most guests and sailors will see. In this section there is a wall mounted media center complete with a large flat-screen TV/internet/computer/surround sound speaker system, large scale instructional magnetic white boards, and classroom space to accommodate large groups of sailors. The technology installed in this area allows our instructors to effectively incorporate digital media, such as interactive online US Sailing Rules simulators, one-design tuning guides, video play-back of practice sessions, etc... into their training portfolio.
Currently, CSYC's Henry B. Joy Sailing Center is the home to CSYC's summer AltS and Junior Sailing Programs, as well as Grosse Pointe South, Grosse Pointe North, and MISSA High School Sailing.
CSYC through the support of the 501.C3 Crescent Sailing Association continually updates its sailing and coach boat fleet. Currently the fleet consists of:
14 C-420 dingies
5 Flying Scott sailboats
18 OPTI prams
1 Cal 20
9 coach boats
