About CSYC Junior Sailing

Whether it be on Lake St. Clair or elsewhere in the United States, Crescent Sail Yacht Club sailors participate in sailing and racing events throughout the year and have excelled in local, regional, national, and international competition. CSYC has made a commitment to the Junior Program and successfully recruits skilled college age sailing instructors and coaches. Instructors and coaches are certified by the United States Sailing (US Sailing), complete with CPR, First Aid Certificate, and MISAA Concussion training.

Our Mission

The Mission of the CSYC Junior Sailing is to develop solid foundational sailing skills and to instill a love for the sport of sailing that will serve as a foundation for their and the sport's future.

We take our jobs at CSYC seriously. This means setting goals and taking responsibility.  Our coaches work with sailors in making sure sailing is not only fun, but that sailors are developing and expanding their individual skill set.

It takes dedication to excel – we understand the value of hard work and instill that philosophy in our junior sailors  -- that with dedication will come success.

Hard Work

We believe that Dedication + Hard Work = Success.  It's that simple.  If you look at competitive sailing today, the winners have been doing it for some time.  We understand their is a learning curve and it's foundations are dedication and hard work.

At CSYC we believe in TEAMWORK and we are a team player.  At CSYC we work with other DRYA Clubs in practicing and at regattas, and support SE Michigan High School Sailing / MISSA as an official sponsor.  We also support the University of Michigan Collegiate Sailing Team.  Our Junior Sailing Program is based upon this philosophy.

Follow Through

You have to put things in motion and keep going until you are successful.  Follow through is an integral part of practice and racing.

Playing By The Rules

One of the most important things in life is playing by the rules and not cutting corners, and we live by that rule. Ethics is very important -- on and off the water.

Planning Ahead

To succeed, you must have both short and long term goals.  We understand that not every junior sailor has aspirations of sailing in high school or college.  Our coaches know that, and are always mindful of the individual goals and aspirations of each sailor.  For those with advanced racing aspirations, we work with them in facilitating additional sailing opportunities at CSYC and beyond.  For those who don't we make sure their junior sailing experience is just as rewarding.
